How to make random teams

Good team generation is mostly about choosing the right output shape, then deciding whether simple strength balancing and locks are worth using.

Choose teams or groups first

Use a fixed team count when you know how many teams you need. Use a target group size when the room format matters more than the final count.

That one decision removes most of the friction before you even worry about balancing.

Use simple balancing, not overfitted scoring

GiveASpin’s balancing is intentionally lightweight. Add one strength number per person when the context calls for it, then let the allocator aim for similar totals.

If the situation does not need balancing, skip it. Simpler is often easier to explain and trust.
